PAINTING THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR OF A HISTORIC CITY TRAM IN NAPLES, ITALY IN COLLABORATION WITH ARTIST NICOLINA JOHNSON 2014

In 2014, I rendezvoused with Nicolina Johnson, a friend from New York, in Naples, Italy, to paint a city tram.

Months prior, in Mexico City, Nicolina befriended an art-loving Napolitan man named Riccardo who, enchanted by her art (and HER) and in particular her project of painted fishermens' boats in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, begged her to come to Naples to paint. Riccardo's associations with the Neopolitan ministry of transportation, the ANM, led to the municipal sponsorship of this tram painting project. Nicolina invited me to come along and collaborate, and act as translator as well.

I stayed on the project another two weeks alone, and painted the interior of the tram, adding the finishing touches and adorning the seat-backs with "glyphs" inspired by my 2 months living in Naples.

Nicolina returned to celebrate and publicly inaugurate the tram, on December 21st. I made us Pulcinella masks and Befana witch hats, to animate the experience with costume and character.

It was a blast.
